BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay and five other protestors have been arrested for allegedly raising communal slogans against Muslims on August 8 at Jantar Mantar of Delhi. In video clips that were examined, slogans were raised along with threats to kill Muslims. “Hindustan mein rehna hoga Jai Shree Ram kehna hoga,” the group shouted.
On being questioned for arrest of people behind the event, the police rounded up suspects, Ashwini Upadhyay and others visible in the video, on Monday evening. Save India’s director Preet Singh, Vinod Sharma, Deepak Singh, Vineet Kranti and someone identified only by name, Deepak are arrested.
Ashwini Upadhyay claimed, “I don’t have any relation with Save India Foundation Trust. I was a guest like Mr. RVS Mani, Mr. Firoz Bakht Ahmed, Mr. Gajendra Chauhan. We reached at around 11:00 and left at 12:00. I never met these miscreants,” taking name of Save India Foundation behind the protest against outdated colonial laws. Gajendra Chauhan, TV actor and BJP leader was also present in the protest but not seen in the video clips, thereby, he has not been arrested.
