Meera Mithun was taken under custody by Chennai Crime Branch on August 14 and will be kept under judicial custody until August 27 by the Saidapet 17th Criminal Court. She was arrested after she failed to appear for police enquiry on August 12 for making communal remarks in a video that went viral. She was booked under seven provisions of Indian Penal Code(IPC) and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act. In a video that Meera shared, she alleged the police for mistreating her, she was seen shouting on the police and refused to surrender her mobile phone.
“I am not speaking ill about members of the SC community. But the members of the community face problems mostly because they are involved in illegal activities and crimes. No one will unnecessarily speak ill of someone without any reason. In the film industry, SC directors and other people of the community do cheap things. It is time to chuck out all the SC directors and other people from the film industry. In one instance, a director from Paraiyar(SC) community took the first look at my movie,” Meera stated in her defense.
The complain against actor and co-host seen in the video was filed by VCK chief and former MP Vanni Arasu after the video went viral. The Cyber cell of Tamil Nadu police registered the case, also, the Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front also filed the case against Meera. Moreover, Dravidar Liberation Organisation Madurai District Secretary, MP Mani Amuthan filed a case against Meera with Madurai Police Commissioner.
